SBE Certification Program
The Certification Program is a service of SBE
contributing to the advancement
of broadcast engineering for the general benefit of the
entire broadcast
industry.
In 1975, SBE established a Certification Program to
recognize and raise
the professional status of broadcast engineers by
providing standards of
professional competence. Through the years, it has
become recognized in
the industry as the primary method of verifying the
attainment of educational
standards. In 2003, SBE’s Certification Program was
recognized by the National
Skill Standards Board. NSSB Certification Recognition
promotes quality
assurance in the certification marketplace and provides
national recognition
for certifications that meet the quality benchmarks.
With the industry
constantly changing, the SBE-certified engineer must
keep up with those
changes.
From the certified operator to the Certified
Professional Broadcast
Engineer, SBE has a certification for every broadcast
engineer and technician.
To learn about the different kinds of certification, go
to the "Certification
Levels" section. You

certification and membership

Chapter 28 Reimbursement Program
Chapter 28 members who take and pass a new level of
certification, may
qualify for reimbursement for the application fee.
The requirements
for reimbursement are as follows:
Each year, account balance permitting, Chapter
28 will reimburse half
the application fee to any member of Chapter 28
in good standing who successfully
obtains any SBE certification level not
previously held by that member.
Recertification of a currently held
certification will not be included
in this program. Only new certification
levels for a member will
be reimbursed.
Only one reimbursement per member will be
allowed during a given calendar
year.
The Chapter will limit the number of approved
applications to ten a
year.
Reimbursement for half the cost of a given
exam will be provided to
the member upon presentation of a
congratulatory letter from the National
Office indicating exam passage and the filing
the application form available
on the SBE Chapter 28 web site
(www.sbe28.org). This letter and
application
should be forwarded to the Chapter Chair to
begin the reimbursement process
(if the Chapter Chair wishes to apply for this
reimbursement, another officer
will review the application and letter for
reimbursement).
Approved reimbursements will be sent in the
form of a check sent from
the Treasurer of Chapter 28.
SBE Chapter 28 Officers reserve the right to
deny any reimbursement
that doesn't meet the stated guidelines.
Each slate of newly elected officers may
review this program and determine
whether they desire to continue this
certification reimbursement program.
SBE Chapter 28 Officers reserve the right to
terminate or change the guidelines
of this program at any point they deem
necessary.
